2. Grammar and Rules

  • これ/それ/あれは Noun です (Kore/Sore/Are wa Noun desu): Used to identify something.

    • Example: これはほんです。 (Kore wa hon desu.) – This is a book.
  • この/その/あの Noun は Noun です (Kono/Sono/Ano Noun wa Noun desu): Used to specify an object by referring to its proximity.

    • Example: このほんはわたしのです。 (Kono hon wa watashi no desu.) – This book is mine.
  • そうです / そうじゃありません (Sou desu / Sou ja arimasen): Used to confirm or negate information.

    • Example: はい、そうです。 (Hai, sou desu.) – Yes, that’s right.
    • Example: いいえ、そうじゃありません。 (Iie, sou ja arimasen.) – No, that’s not correct.
  • Noun か Noun か (Noun ka Noun ka): Used to ask which of two options is correct.

    • Example: これはえんぴつですか、ボールペンですか。 (Kore wa enpitsu desu ka, boorupen desu ka?) – Is this a pencil or a ballpoint pen?

3. Example Sentences

  • それはじしょですか。
    (Sore wa jisho desu ka?)
    – Is that a dictionary?

  • あれはくるまですか。

    – Is that over there a car?
